Þórdís Gerður Jónsdóttir (Thordis Gerdur Jonsdottir) is a cellist equally fluent in classical music and jazz.

Combining the accuracy and sensitivity of classical chamber music with the free expression and playfulness of jazz and improvisation, she seeks to erase the borders of the two genres into something that is uniquely her own sound and musical intention.

In recent years Þórdís has been experimenting with finding the cello a place in jazz as a leading instrument as well as exploring where improvisation can aid with more personal interpretation in chamber music.

Hljóð í ljóði, her second album, was released on 29 August 2026 on Vetur Music, with a launch concert at Reykjavík Jazz Festival in Austurbæjarbíó. Eight of her own compositions set to Icelandic poetry — Steinn Steinarr, Davíð Stefánsson, Ásta Sigurðardóttir, Gerður Kristný, Ragnar Helgi Ólafsson, Steingrímur Thorsteinsson — alongside one English Renaissance song. Steinn Steinarr reads his own poem on the record.
